How often should you clean your sofa?

Most households wait until a sofa looks dirty before thinking about cleaning it. By then, the visible dirt is the smallest part of the problem — the fabric has been holding dust, body oils, food residue and allergens for months or years. A better approach is to clean on a schedule, not on appearance.

A working schedule

For a typical household, a professional deep clean every 6 to 12 months keeps a sofa genuinely clean rather than merely presentable. Adjust from there:

  • Every 3–6 months — homes with young children, pets, or a household member with dust allergies
  • Every 6–12 months — average family use, regular vacuuming in between
  • Every 12 months — light-use rooms, guest seating, or leather sets that mainly need conditioning

Nairobi's dust seasons matter too. After a long dry spell, fine dust settles deep into upholstery even in closed-up houses, so many clients book a clean shortly after the rains return.

Signs your sofa is overdue

  • Arms and headrest areas look darker than the rest of the fabric
  • A musty or stale smell when you sit down or fluff the cushions
  • Dust puffs out when the seat is patted
  • Allergies or sneezing that gets worse in the living room
  • You cannot remember the last time it was cleaned

Between professional cleans

Vacuum weekly with the upholstery attachment, rotating and beating cushions. Deal with spills the day they happen — blot, never rub. Keep the sofa out of direct afternoon sun, which fades fabric unevenly. These habits stretch the time between deep cleans and keep each one more effective.

When it is time for a deep clean, fabric sofas cost Ksh 700 per seat — a five-seater comes to Ksh 3,500 plus a flat Ksh 500 logistics charge. Get a quote on WhatsApp and we will confirm the scope before we start.
